CAROLYN MATHIAS, REGENT
In the year of 1930, while the United States was in the early stages of severe depression, twelve Cecil County, Maryland, women began organizing a new chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Head of Elk Chapter was confirmed by the National Society in January, 1931. Though much has changed since those early days, the current membership is working to preserve their founders' vision.
Head of Elk members work to preserve our great heritage, spread Americanism, and honor those who establish our country and those who defend it. The Chapter encourages respect for our country's leaders and for the American Flag and urges all to be aware of our rights and duties as Americans.
Head of Elk Chapter is located in Cecil County, Maryland, bordering the states of Delaware and Pennsylvania. The county is relatively rural but abounds in historic sites. The membership is composed of 55-60 enthusiastic ladies of varying ages. Meetings are held on the second Saturday of October through June in homes, restaurants, libraries and historic sites.
It is the requirement of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution that one's ancestor has served in some capacity during the American Revolution. The national Society claims more than 2800 members at this time. If you are interested, contact our Registrar or Regent, and we will assist you in your research.
