Membership

As members of the NSDAR, we are often asked why should a woman join our lineage society. The following excerpt from a National Society Daughters of the American Revolution publication answers that question.

The DAR gives prospective members an opportunity for service in many areas. It is a way to join with other members in trying to make America a better place in which to live. It offers an opportunity to work with the youth of this great country through the educational programs offered by the NSDAR. It offers encouragement to become active in the community, to assist in historical preservation, to help preserve important documents and records of the past. It offers an opportunity to meet new people with similar interests, develop friendships and to join with others who cherish the priceless heritage enjoyed by all while promoting the ideals of patriotism and love of country. In addition, it offers an incentive to become involved in conservation of our natural resources and to make a difference by doing so. "Getting to Know the DAR," February 1996, Page 5.
Eligibility

Any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death. Admission to membership in the NSDAR is either by invitation through a Chapter in your State Organization (or Unit Overseas) or as a Member-At-Large. No Chapter may discriminate against an applicant on the basis of race or creed.
