New Chapter DAR
The Head of Elk Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, was organized at the home of Mrs. Irvin T. Kepler, Regent, on Saturday, December 20, by Mrs. Robert A. Welsh, of Millersville, Md., State Regent.
The Ritual of the Daughters of the American Revolution for organization of Chapters was used and each of the officers took a solemn oath to support the Constitution of the United States. Twelve members signed as organizing members.
The officers of the new Chapter are Regent, Mrs. Irvin T. Kepler; Vice-Regent, Mrs. Harry T. Alexander; Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. Robert C. Thackery; Recording Secretary, Mrs. Lynn B. Gillespie; Treasurer, Mrs. Braclay Moore; Chaplain, Miss Gratia C. Wells; Registrar, Miss Katharine M. Bratton; Historian, Miss Mollie Howard Ash.
The State Regent stated the duties of the new Chapter members, advising and congratulating them. Mrs. Kepler read a very instructive paper on the Head of Elk.
Dues of the Chapter will be four dollars per year.
Accompanying the State Regent in the visit to Elkton were Mrs. John H. Lilburn, State Vice-Regent, of St. Mary’s County; Mrs. L.R. Alden, State Editor, and Mrs. Sarah H. Wright, Regent of the Carter Braxton Chapter.
Mrs. Elva G. Denney, Regent of the Captain Jeremiah Baker Chapter, and Mrs. Roy James, of Harford County Chapter, were also present.
The first regular meeting of the new Chapter will be held January 10.
After the meeting adjourned a social hour was much enjoyed by all, and delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.
